A look into the lives of phonesex operators

'Phonesex' is Phillip Toledano's second book published through Twin Palms. His first book beingg 'Bankrupt' showing abandoned offices and what had been left by the companies. In 'Phonesex' Toledano has photographed almost thirty phonesex operators in the intimate setting of their own living environments or workplace.

The book offers a sneaky peak into the reality of what is usually a fantasy created by the operator's voice and the caller's imagination. Each portrait has a text written by each subject touching on some aspect of their experience as an operator. The operators are men and women each point of view being either humorous, touching, or distressing. Overall, each point of view is compelling reading.

Each person is also so different and the photographs prove that all types, shapes, sizes, and colours are in the phone sex business.

"There is a contract that exists between phonesex operators and the people who call. It is a contract of self-delusion. The caller agrees to pretend that he (or she) is calling a young, beautiful girl, and the phonesex operator willingly plays the part. Phonesex reveals the truth. It pulls back the veil to reveal the expected, and the unexpected, all at once."
